Lock Types

Most common for uPVC doors, they operate by lifting the handle and turning the key to engage multiple locking points (usually 3 to 5) along the door frame. Good for security as they resist forced entry better than single point locks. Types of MPL feature; the standard latch & deadbolt, hook bolts (anti lift protection), mushroom cams for a better seal & rollers for weather protection.
Euro Cylinder Locks
These are the actual key cylinders used in multipoint locks. We can upgrade just the cylinder for better security. Standard Euro Cylinder are very basic and vulnerable to lock bumping, snapping & drilling.
Upgrades
The anti-snap euro cylinder offers enhanced security, often British Standards TS007 rated (1 to 3 stars). the thumbturn cylinder with a key required only on the outside, simply twist the knob on the inside for quick exit.

My uPVC door handle is jammed, i cannot lock the door?
There is a good chance the gearbox mechanism has failed. ASL can easily replace this part in short time.
UPVC door scrapes the frame or floor?
Cause: Likely to be worn or loose hinges or improper door installation. Also could be weather thermal change.
Solutions: Fine tune or replace hinges. Re-align the door.
UPVC door will not lock or unlock?
Causes: Misaligned door (frame has shifted, often due to heat or wear). Worn or broken multipoint locking mechanism. Euro cylinder issue (e.g., snapped cam or internal fault)
Fix: Adjust hinges or door. Replace lock or cylinder if needed.
UPVC door handle won’t lift, key won’t turn, or locking points don’t engage fully?
In the case of a Faulty Multipoint Locking Mechanism
Causes: Internal gearbox failure (a common weak point in multipoint locks). Door misalignment putting pressure on locking points. Deterioration of mechanical components due to wear or corrosion.
Resolution: Inspect and replace the central gearbox or entire locking strip. Realign door to relieve stress on locking points. Lubricate components with a non-greasy lubricant.
UPVC door key won’t turn / stuck in lock?
In the case of a Euro Cylinder
Causes: Damaged or worn euro cylinder. Debris or corrosion inside lock. Misalignment of lock and keeps
Resolution: Try lubrication (graphite powder or silicone spray), realign door, or replace cylinder.
UPVC door windows are misting up?
Condensation Between Glazing
Causes: Broken double glazing seal
Fix: Replace glass unit (not the whole door)
UPVC door leaks water or draught comes through?
Draughts or Water Ingress
Causes: Worn rubber seals or poor fit. Drainage holes blocked
Fix: Replace seals, clean drainage channels, adjust compression with cams.
Is there a call out charge?
No. ASL does not make a call out charge.
How many visits does the ASL locksmith need?
ASL estimates they fix 99% of lock repair and replacement solutions in the first visit.

Do I need permission to change the lock if I rent?
If your in rented accommodation, check your tenancy agreement. In most cases, you’ll need your landlord’s approval, especially if it’s a main entrance lock.
