The handle is stuck or it has snapped off

Window Won’t Open or Close Properly
Window is hard to open or close, window sticks or scrapes the frame. Most likely broken or worn hinges notably friction stays. These can be replaced.
Windows shut but they don’t lock
The handle may turn but it doesn’t lock, the key won’t turn. Most likely faulty espagnolette lock or gearbox or key barrel for a Euro cylinder design. We can replace the espagnolette strip or central gearbox if worn.
The handle is stuck or broken off
The handle may be loose or stiff. It could have broken off. There could be a stripped spindle or the internal mechanism is jammed or broken key barrel. In this case replace the handle and lubricate or replace locking mechanism.
Draughts / air leaks
Cold air can get in. You could have worn of flattened gaskets, these can be replaced. Window frame may not be compressed enough, hinges and cams can be adjusted. Locking point may not be engaging.

Glass or double glazing broken or misted
Broken glass can be replaced. If there is misting between the panes, not just on the surface then there is likely a failed seal that can be changed without replacing the whole window.

We fit British Standard restrictors, that limit the window openings only up to 100mm width, preventing any openings that may lead to accidental or intentional falls from upper floor windows.

My uPVC window does not open or close properly?
Hard to open/close, sticks or scrapes the frame.
Cause & fix: There can be dirt or objects in the tracks, this is easy to clean and lubricate with silicone spray. Tune the friction stays with screw. Worn or broken hinges / friction stays can be replaced.
UPVC window has draughts or air leaks?
Cold air seeping in, especially on windy days.
Causes: Worn or flattened gaskets. Frame not compressing due to poor hinge adjustment or warping. Locking points not engaging correctly.
Fixes: Replace rubber gaskets (choose EPDM or Q-Lon for durability). Adjust hinges and cams (mushroom cams can be rotated to increase pressure). Make sure the locking mechanism pulls the sash snugly into the frame.
UPVC window will not lock or unlock?
Handle turns but doesn’t lock; key won’t turn.
Causes: Faulty espagnolette lock or gearbox. Key barrel (Euro cylinder) issue. Misalignment between sash and frame causing stress on the mechanism.
Fixes: Adjust hinges or locking cams. Replace the espagnolette strip or central gearbox if worn. Swap the lock cylinder if it’s damaged or sticking.
UPVC window handle issues?
Loose, stiff, or broken handle; lock doesn’t turn.
Causes: Stripped spindle or internal mechanism jammed. Broken key barrel. Misalignment causing internal lock to bind.
Fixes: Replace the handle (we carry spares and can order matching handles). Lubricate or replace the locking mechanism. Check for proper alignment of locking points.

Do I need permission to change the lock if I rent?
If your in rented accommodation, check your tenancy agreement. In most cases, you’ll need your landlord’s approval, especially if it’s a main entrance lock.
